To access the data transfer facility, we recommend JAWS ® for Windows ® version 8.0, MAGIC ® version 9.0, ZoomText ® version 8.12, or later versions of these applications.

If you encounter any problems using the portal with these tools, contact the Tax Office on 1300 139 373.

 

 

Adjusting your screen display settings

 

The data transfer facility has been tested with screen resolutions of 1024 x 768 and 1280 x 1024. To change the screen resolution in Windows:

  1. Select the Windows <Start> button
  1. Go to <Settings> and select <Control Panel> in the menu
  1. If you have Windows XP, select <Appearance and Themes>, then select the <Display> icon. For other operating systems, just select the <Display> icon
  1. Select the <Settings> tab
  1. Adjust the screen resolution bar until the pointer shows 1024 x 768 pixels
  1. If you have Windows XP, select <OK>. For other operating systems, select <OK> twice. The display settings will adjust and then choose to accept the changed settings.

 

The standard font used on this site is Arial at 10pt size (medium). If you would like to change the display font and/or font size you can do so by modifying the font settings in your browser options/preferences.

 

If you modify your settings you will also need to ensure you set the browser to ignore font styles and sizes specified on web pages.

 

 

Internet browsers

 

The data transfer facility will work on any Internet Explore version 6 or later.

  • select Help, and
  • select About Internet Explorer.

Scripting

 

To use the data transfer facility, we recommend that your browser has ‘Scripts’ enabled. If it is disabled, the facility may not function correctly.

Limitations

 

The supported compression tools are WinZip and PKZip.

Only one file can be included in a compressed file. If more than one file is included, only one will be processed by the facility.

 

 

Technical troubleshooting

 

If you are experiencing technical problems, the information below may assist you to resolve them.

Error: Page not found

You need 128-bit encryption to enter the data transfer facility.

We recommend you update your browser version. Refer to How to update your browser version

‘Java Error’ message displayed or you are taken unexpectedly out of a page.

Your personal computer has an old browser installed which does not support JavaScript.

Upgrade to the latest version of your browser. Refer to How to update your browser version

JavaScript is disabled on your browser. This error may only occur on specific pages within the portal that use JavaScripting.

Enable JavaScript on your browser. This will usually be an option under ‘User Preferences’.
Instructions on enabling JavaScript should be found in your browser's help facility.

‘404 – is displayed Not found’ error message

Your company's internet firewall does not allow Java scripts. This error may only occur on specific pages within the portal that use JavaScript.

This is not usually a problem if you connect to the internet via an Internet Service Provider (ISP). However, if you are accessing the internet using your corporate internet connection, talk to your information technology area.

JavaScript is disabled on your browser. This error may only occur on specific pages within the portal that use JavaScript.

Missing pages or system overload. This error usually occurs immediately when you try to open a page.

Record the URL of the page you are trying to open. Then contact the Tax Office on 1300 139 373.

Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) either does not have the https port enabled or has altered it via a proxy server. Therefore, your internet connection failed after selecting a menu option and you have not been able to progress to the next screen.

You will need to call your ISP to check with them if they have https enabled and get advice from them on the solution to this problem (your service provider may instruct you to change your default port number to allow https to work).

‘500’ error message is displayed

Internet congestion. This error usually occurs after your browser has timed-out after several seconds.
